Roadworks to begin on two of Salford's busiest roundabouts next week - it will take six months

Delays are expected as roadworks on one of the most congested junctions in Salford are to begin next week.

From Monday 13th January to Tuesday 30 June, work will take place on junction 13, better known as Worsley Roundabouts.

Work will be done to improve the two roundabouts to lessen the impact on traffic flow during the rush hour period.

Salford City Council say that the work being done should reduce the journey time for locals using the junction by 10%, but local traffic should see a "bigger journey time saving."

Work will take place at night meaning your journey should be unaffected if you are using the junctions between the hours of 6am and 7.30pm.

Major work will be done to resurface the two roundabouts and solve the ongoing drainage issues at the Worsley Courthouse roundabout.

Last year, the Worsley roundabout was flooded during heavy rainfall.

An additional lane approaching the roundabout will be added, clearer road markings and improvements to pavements and cycle lanes will aslo be made.

The roads most affected in the area will be Worsley Rd, Barton Rd and Leigh Rd.

The improvements works are for the roundabouts at the motorway junction, and not for the M60 itself.

Proposals to relieve pressure on the M60 between junctions 8 and 18 are being investigated by the Department for Transport and Highways England.
