Motorists are being urged to avoid a main road in St Helens as improvement works are to be carried out.
There is expected to be major disruption around the Boundary Road area from this week. St Helens Council confirmed that work has started this week on an upgrade of the traffic signals at the junction of Boundary Road, Kirkland Street and Lingholme Road. Temporary traffic lights have been put in place while work is carried out.
However, taking to their social media page, they informed residents that the work is expected to last for six weeks and motorists are advised to avoid the area. A spokesperson wrote: "The team on site will do their best to minimise disruption but motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible."

However, residents have hit out at the decision on social media, fearing there will be "bedlam" with the temporary traffic lights and other road works in the area. Others have said there will be much "disruption" to those in the area.
