Roadworks on A75 near Twynholm to begin on April 4

Motorists using the A75 are being warned to brace themselves for nearly three weeks’ worth of disruption.

A £795,500 maintenance programme on a stretch of the Eurouroute between Tarff Bridge and Twynholm gets under way on Monday and isn’t due to be completed until April 22.

Amey had intended to use a daytime convoy but abandoned the plans after local businesses, including the Cocoabean Factory, expressed concern that this would hit trade during the school holidays.

Instead, there will be temporary traffic lights during the day with an overnight convoy between 8pm and 6am. The lights will be removed completely over the Easter weekend.

Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson welcomed the change of approach.

He said: “Over the Easter holiday period there is normally more traffic travelling on local roads and it is important that this essential maintenance work doesn’t seriously impact on them.

“I was contacted by the Cocoabean Factory who feared it would pose problems for them and I am pleased that Amey has now taken this on board with its revised proposals.

“Amey has assured me that while they cannot reschedule the dates for this work, it will minimise the use of traffic lights and carry out overnight works with appropriate signage and publicity to make sure the locals and visitors are aware businesses are still open as usual.”
