Roadworks disruption is worth it for residents as work begins on 'dodgy road'

Neighbours have spoken of life on a stretch of road where some drivers 'go like crazy' as roadworks are put in place for long-awaited improvements of traffic calming measures.

One resident living near Green Lane in Clifton even described trying to sleep at night as 'horrendous' due to the noise vehicles make as they travel along the stretch.

Roadworks are now in place in Green Lane, stretching from the junctions with Southchurch Drive to Langstrath Road, and the road will be shut in both directions. The works are due to finish on September 20.

The purpose of the works are to remove and modify existing traffic calming measures and resurface the road, which has been widely welcomed in the area, despite the inconvenience of the road closure.

“It's in desperate need,” said 66-year-old Linda Ellis. “Because of the dodgy road, when you're in the house and you've got your window open every vehicle that goes over the road makes a noise.

“Trying to get to sleep at night is horrendous, a lot of neighbours down here couldn't get to sleep. Also, when you drive down the road you get wear and tear on your car. It really does need this resurfacing.”

“Big lorries come down here so it will make a big difference for us,” said another resident, who asked to remain anonymous.

“I also hope that people will slow down now. Sometimes people go crazy on this road. There are so many speed and noise problems.”

Danny Collison, a teacher who lives nearby, also welcomed the roadworks, saying: “It needs doing, a lot of damage has been done to the road over the years.”

However he also spoke of difficulty with getting to the shop as a result, before adding: “When schools open up I don't know what they're going to do.”
