Roads sealed and homes evacuated as 'suspicious items' found

A number of roads are sealed and homes have been evacuated after suspicious items were found.

Cheshire Police were called to Hale Road, near the junction of Lovel Terrace, in Widnes at around 7pm on Friday, December 30. Officers received a call reporting a number of suspicious items were found at an address on the road.

Once multiple officers arrived at the scene, they put a cordon in place and began investigating. Eyewitnesses reported seeing armed police at the scene and around six vehicles.

Officers have evacuated a number of properties in the area as a precaution. An eyewitness told The ECHO the cordon was extended around one hour after police arrived at the scene.

Officers are now in the process of trying to establish what the suspicious items are.

A spokesperson from Cheshire Police said: "At around 7pm on Friday 30 December 2022 police received a report of suspicious items at an address on Hale Road in Widnes. Officers were subsequently dispatched to Hale Road.

"As precautionary measures, a cordon has been set up and properties have been evacuated. Officers are currently in the process of trying to establish what the suspicious items are."
