Roads remain closed following Lancefield Quay fire

Roads remain closed following a fire at Lancefield Quay which engulfed a block of flats on Monday night.

Fire crews raced to the scene by the River Clyde to tackle a "well-developed" fire within the second floor of the three-storey building.

Firefighters battled throughout the night to bring the blaze under control and remain on site this morning (Wednesday) having contained the fire.

No-one was injured as a result, with dozens of residents having been evacuated.

As the emergency services remain on site, the following streets continue to be closed to traffic:

Lancefield Quay is closed between Hydepark Street and Elliot Street

Lancefield Quay is closed eastbound at the junction with Finnieston Street / The Clyde Arc Bridge.

Anderston Quay is closed westbound at the junction with North Street.

Clydeside Walkway has been closed between Hydepark Street and Elliot Street.

Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were alerted at 6.43pm on Monday December 9 to reports of a building fire in Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised a total of 15 fire appliances to the city's Lancefield Quay, where firefighters were met by a well-developed fire within the second floor of a three-storey building.

"Firefighters worked through the night towards extinguishing the fire.

"There are currently five fire appliances remaining at the scene, where firefighters are presently dampening down remaining hot spots and working to make the area safe.

"There are no casualties."
