Motorists have been warned of traffic chaos now that construction of the Pink Line connecting Khae Rai in Nonthaburi to Min Buri district in the capital is set to kick off.
The warning comes after an announcement in the Royal Gazette that parts of Rattanathibet, Tiwanon and Chaeng Watthana roads would be closed from Wednesday to June 30 next year to pave the way for work on the mass-transit project in Nonthaburi.
The 35km Pink Line starts at Nonthaburi's government complex, heads to Tiwanon Road, passes Pak Kret intersection and moves on to Chaeng Watthana Road.
The route continues to Ram Intra Road and ends at Min Buri.
During the eight months, the work will mainly involve removal of public infrastructure along the three roads. The details of the road closures are as follows:
On Rattanathibet Road, one inbound lane of the frontage road and one inbound lane of the main road has been closed to traffic around the clock.
This closed section starts at a bus stop in front of Nonthaburi's government complex and ends at Khae Rai intersection.
The furthest right inbound and outbound lanes of Tiwanon Road from the bridge running over Klong Bang Talat canal to the Royal Irrigation Department intersection were closed from Wednesday until Feb 29 next year.
The furthest right inbound lane of two sections of Chaeng Watthana Road -- one from the exit ramp of Rama IV Bridge to the area in front of the Thai Police Band Division and the other from Chaeng Watthana Soi 41 to the area before the bridge running over Klong Prapa -- will also be closed around the clock from Wednesday until June 30 next year.
The two furthest right inbound lanes of these same two sections of Chaeng Watthana Road are also to be closed from 10pm until 4am every day from now until June 30 next year.
That also applies to the furthest right inbound and outbound lanes of the bridge running over Klong Prapa.
