Roads closed off as man's body found in River Alt

Road closures are in place after a man's body was recovered from a Merseyside river.

Police confirmed the dead man was found in the River Alt around 7am this morning.

A large emergency services presence could be seen around Switch Island and police and fire engines could be seen parked up in Spencer's Lane in Melling.

Merseyside Police say they are now working to establish the identity of the man.

Road closures remain in place on Brewery Lane.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area as investigations continue.

A police spokeswoman said: "Merseyside Police can confirm enquiries are underway following the discovery of a man’s body in the River Alt in the Melling area this morning."

She added: "Emergency services were called at around 7am and are currently working to identify the man

"Road closures remain in place on Brewery Lane, Melling. Please avoid the area whilst officers deal with the incident."
