Roads closed in Wirral due to flooding after heavy rain

Main roads were closed in Wirral after Merseyside was hit with hours of bad weather yesterday.

Flash flooding occurred across Birkenhead after downpours started on Tuesday afternoon and continued throughout the night.

Borough Road was affected the most by the rain, with flooding still visible across the road on Wednesday morning.

A Wirral Police spokesperson confirmed they were made aware of the flooding at around 8pm yesterday.

Posted on a Wirral Police social media page, their warning read: "Large volumes of standing water are currently impacting road travel. Please take care when driving."

Bebington is also understood to have been hit hard.

Resident Ron Henderson added on Facebook that other roads flooded included Greendale Road and Bebington Road.

The weather today is looking much brighter for Wirral, though there may be some more showers.
