Roads closed in Brisbane due to flooding, authorities ask motorists to stay at home

Authorities are frustrated their pleas to stay at home are falling on deaf ears as parts of Brisbane experience gridlock today.

This morning / both Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Queensland Police Service Commissioner Katarina Carroll asked motorists to avoid non-essential travel and keep the roads clear for emergency vehicles.

"There is substantial traffic on the roads today and there are a number of roads blocked," Commissioner Carroll said. 

"Can I ask you to be patient and let emergency vehicles past on the road.

All Queensland Rail and ferry services are still suspended, however buses have resumed travel on a limited timetable.

Here are some of the major roads to avoid in the south-east Queensland, as at 12pm AEST March 1:

Motorists are advised to avoid driving through floodwaters.

For life threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
