Roads closed as six fire crews battle blaze at hospice shop in Aintree

Huge plumes of smoke were sent billowing across the city after a blaze broke out at a hospice shop in Aintree.

Six fire engines are at the scene of the fire in Warbreck Moor, where crews were called just after 12.30pm.

Road closures are currently in place from Signey Street to Caldy Road and people are being asked to avoid the area.

Photos taken at the scene show the blaze ripping through the warehouse of a St Joseph's Hospice furniture shop.

Residents are being told to keep their windows and doors shut to the amount of smoke in the area.

"Thankfully everyone was evacuated safely and the fire service is currently at the scene. We will provide further updates as soon as we are able to."
