Roads closed as emergency services tackle 'disused building' fire

HOMES have been evacuated and several road closures are in place in Lenzie due to a building fire.

Emergency services were called to a disused building on Boghead Road at around 10.50pm last night (August 22) following a report of a blaze.

Police Scotland have reported road closures are in place on Spruce Drive, Heather Drive, Heather Place and Boghead Road.

Several properties have also been evacuated.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said five appliances were sent to the scene to extinguish the "large fire".

Residents in nearby areas have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

Police are advising people to avoid the area.

East Dunbartonshire Council posted an update on Facebook stating: "It is anticipated the roads will remain closed over the weekend."
