Roads closed and air ambulance called after woman falls ill

Fire crews were called to help a woman get to hospital after she became unwell at her home in Backwell, North Somerset.

Three fire crews and three ambulance crews were called to Westfield Road around lunchtime today (Saturday, April 24) after a woman at the property fell ill.

The woman was helped from the property by firefighters and medics into a waiting ambulance.

The Great Western Air Ambulance was also called, landing in a nearby field.

The woman, understood to be a bariatric patient, was taken to hospital by air ambulance.

The road has now reopened.
