Roads were closed by police after a serious crash left a car smashed into a nearby wall.
Emergency services were called to Marsh Lane in Bootle shortly after 8pm to reports of a crash between a blue Ford Mondeo and a black Ford Fiesta.
It is believed that fire crews and paramedics were also called to the scene at the junction of Spenser Street.
Dramatic images, taken in the aftermath of the collision, show how the blue Ford crashed into the wall of a building causing significant damage to the front of the car.
The black car was also left with significant damage and stopped in the middle of the road, as pictures show how the air bags deployed after the impact with the other car.
It is not believed that anyone was seriously injured in the crash and a spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed that Sefton Council were heading to the scene to carry out a clean up operation.
In a statement, the force said: "Officers were called to Marsh Lane in Bootle at 8.21pm, to reports of a road traffic collision between two cars.
"It has been logged as a slight injury RTC with debris in the road.
"Council are en route to clean up the scene and the cars will be recovered."
