Roads closed across Greater Manchester after Storm Dennis causes havoc in region

Storm Dennis brought blustery winds and heavy rain to Greater Manchester this weekend, resulting in transport disruption on the regions roads.

A section of Rochdale Road, in Ancoats, is shut in both directions after the storm caused damage to a building.

Traffic is blocked from travelling between Thompson Street to Swan Street inbound, as well as outbound between Miller Street to Angel Street.

Drivers can also only travel one way from Dantzic Street to Rochdale Road.

The building was deemed unsafe at 3pm on Sunday and has been shut since.

There are reports of drivers moving the cones to travel through the closed section last night.

A tweet from Transport for Greater Manchester said: "Long delays on A664 Rochdale Road southbound, A62 Oldham Road southbound and Great Ancoats Street Northbound due to the ongoing closure of Rochdale Road / Miller Street."

Drivers are also being warned of unsafe conditions on the A57 Snake Pass.

Several sections of the route are flooded and there are reports of some land slides.

The Snake Pass remains open, however drivers are being warned to approach with care as they travel between Ladybower Reservoir and Hurst Road.

A bridge crossing the River Irwell into Salford was also damaged by rising water levels.

Footage showed extensive damage to the metal framework of the bridge, located near Clifton.
