'Roads become rivers' as videos show extent of flooding in West Kerry

Some roads "have become rivers" in the past few days after extensive flooding in Co Kerry.

Videos from Eva Ni Shuilleabhain show her area in West Kerry was badly flooded with roads completely covered in water on Wednesday morning.

She said: "Trying to go for a walk this morning won't be easy. Terrible flooding last night. Our roads have become rivers."

The videos from the area show how badly the area has been hit by the torrential rain in recent days.

This comes after a week of weather warnings and businesses being ravaged by sudden floods all over the Munster county.

Kenmare was one of the areas worst affected and emergency funding has even been given to some companies hit by extensive damage.

Tanaiste Leo Varadkar said earlier this week: "Flood damage can have a devastating impact on local communities, especially small businesses and voluntary and community organisations that have already been dealt an enormous blow with Covid-19.

"This scheme is designed to provide urgent help to those who have not been able to secure flood insurance, providing up to €20,000 in cash for emergency repairs and replacement of damaged stock or equipment."
