Roads around Temple Meads to close overnight for three weeks

The roads around Temple Meads will be closed overnight for a three week period during the summer holidays.

The closures will allow for contractors to resurface the new road layout at Temple Gate following more than two years of work.

It comes just a week after Bristol City Council confirmed that the Temple Circus roadworks remain on schedule to be finished in autumn this year.

During the closures the contractors will resurface roads and paint new lining on Redcliffe Way and from Bath Bridges to Victoria Street, Temple Way and the Friary.

The first overnight closure will start on Sunday, July 28, this will be followed by three weeks of overnight weekday closured from Monday, July 29 to Friday, August 16.

The roads will be closed from 8pm to 6am.

Businesses in the area will be open as usual with pedestrian routes maintained throughout.

The resurfacing work will mean contractors can then progress with the installation of new and upgraded pedestrian crossings, bus shelters and cycling infrastructure.

Cllr Kye Dudd, cabinet member for transport, said: “The resurfacing works mark another step forward for this project which will improve Temple Gate for all those who use or pass through every day.

“I recognise the inconvenience caused while we undertake these important works.

"We’ve scheduled the resurfacing to take place overnight and during the quieter summer period to minimise the disruption to the city and its residents.

"I look forward to seeing a key element of the final scheme delivered with much more to come in the near future.”

There will be a diversion route in place during the closures, but motorists have been advised to leave extra time for their journey or consider an alternative route.

Access to Temple Meads station will be maintained throughout the resurfacing, but there will be some lane and turning restrictions when work is taking place by Station Approach.

Diversions to bus routes will also apply and details of these will be available on Travelwest website nearer the time.
