Roads affected as restrictions come into place for Ayrshire cycling event

Visitors to Irvine beach are being asked to take note of temporary road restrictions next weekend to allow a major cycling event to take place.

Round Three of the HSBC Cyclo-Cross National Trophy Series will be hosted at Irvine Beach Park on Saturday, October 26, and Sunday, October 27.

Visitors to the beach are asked to note that restrictions will be in place at the beach park and nearby car parks from 5pm on Friday, October 25, to 5pm on Sunday, October 27.

Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet Member for Place, said: “We are delighted to welcome back the Cyclo-Cross National Trophy series to North Ayrshire.

“The Series is held across the UK and Irvine is the only Scottish venue on the calendar so it’s a real opportunity to see some top-class action.

“Those who went along last year loved the experience and the event brought something special to the beach park.”

Vehicle users should note that no access will be allowed to the car parks along Beach Drive, including the car parks adjacent to the former Magnum site, from 5pm on Friday to 5pm on Sunday.

The only vehicles allowed access will be those directly involved in the cycling event.

Alternative parking is available at the Harbour Road car park, adjacent to the Maritime Museum, or the South Beach Car Park off Marine Drive.

The event was a big hit with spectators when it was staged in Irvine last year, the first time it had visited Scotland.
