Road users in West Lothian warned essential works will close the M8 motorway for two nights next week

Road users in West Lothian are warned that essential works will close the M8 for two nights.

Essential works between Shotts and Whitburn will take place next week on Thursday June 3 and Friday June 4.

A diversion will be in place during the closure.

A West Lothian Council spokesperson explained: “BEAR Scotland is planning to carry out essential resurfacing works on the M8 Eastbound between junction 5 Shotts and junction 4a Heartlands.

“The works are programmed to commence on Thursday 3rd June 2021 for two nights between the hours of 20:30 and 06:00 each night.

“To ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public it is necessary to close this section of the M8 during the works.

“During this period of closure, a signed diversion route will be in place for traffic travelling eastbound via M8 Junction 5, B7057, B7066 and back onto the M8 at Junction 4a.”

The council also had some important information for visitors to Polkemmet Country Park Centre.

Vehicle access to Polkemmet will be restricted next week, from Wednesday June 2 to Friday June 4, due to essential repairs to the road bridge over the River Almond.

The bridge will therefore be closed to all traffic, including pedestrians/cyclists etc during this time.

The South Car Park will still be open but visitors are asked to not attempt to drive to Polkemmet Country Park during this three-day period, as the closure will result in a reduction in overall parking capacity in the country park.
