Road to popular Bolton beauty spot closed for four months for major works

A road leading to a popular Bolton beauty spot will be closed for around four months for essential works.

Walker Fold Road is the main route to Walker Fold Woods and several moorland walking loops, as well as a newly-built Woodland Trust car park.

However, Bolton Council is set to close the lane for around 16 weeks in order to complete key roadworks.

The scheme begins on Monday, March 15, and will span a section of the road between Chorley Old Road and Edge Lane.

It could take more time or be finished earlier, dependant on the weather, the council says.

Walker Fold Road will be closed throughout the works, signs will be placed on site giving advanced notice of when the closure will be in operation.

The £1m project involves carriageway reconstruction and new drainage features and is part of a £12m borough-wide scheme of roadworks.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the council said: "The work is expected to take 16 weeks to complete subject to weather conditions.

"The council would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused to residents and road users.

"Residents and businesses will be able to access their properties during the works and have been informed of the plans, although there may be times when access is restricted."
