Chrysanthemum carriage heads for Ise

A carriage is loaded onto a truck at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on Tuesday. The Emperor will use the 4.5-meter-long, 1.9-meter-wide conveyance on Friday and Saturday for the Shinetsu no Gi ceremony to report his enthronement at Ise Jingu shrines in Ise, Mie Prefecture. Made in 1928, the carriage is covered in wine red lacquer and bears such decorations as a chrysanthemum seal.
