Road shut off with forensic officers at scene as police find 'suspicious item' after car damaged

A 'suspicious item' has been found after a car was damaged on a street in Bury.

Police were called to a report of criminal damage on Lea Mount Drive just before 8pm this evening (Thursday).

A car had been damaged on the street, police said.

Officers found a suspicious item at the scene.

It has been recovered and will undergo forensic analysis.

Pictures taken this evening show a police cordon in place on Lea Mount Drive.

A number of police vehicles are stationed at the scene and forensic officers are carrying out investigation work.

Enquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At just before 8pm, police were called to a report of criminal damage at an address on Lea Mount Drive, Bury.

"A vehicle had been damaged, at this time exactly how is unclear.

"Also found at the scene was a suspicious item which was recovered for forensic analysis.

"This is an ongoing investigation and anybody with information is asked to come forward by ringing 101 and quoting log 2745-180321.

"Alternatively information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers either online or by ringing 0800 555 111."
