Road shut after roof blown off house in Old Trafford

A road was shut after the roof of a house was blown off in a storm.

A property undergoing construction work on Kings Road, Old Trafford was badly damaged by high winds on Wednesday night.

Kings Road was closed to traffic between Warwick Road South and Seymour Grove until the area was made secure.

The timber structure of the semi-detached property became dislodged at around 11pm.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said: "I heard a scraping sound in the middle of the night.

"When I looked outside the roof of the house was dangling off. It was quite worrying because we were told to stay at the back of our house in case it came through the front window.

"They've been working on that house for a while."

The roof was in the process of being repaired on Thursday.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) Tweeted: "Kings Road is closed between Warwick Road South and Seymour Grove in Old Trafford.

"This is due to a dangerous building. Please seek an alternative route."

The route was reopened to traffic at around midday on Thursday.

High winds and rain has caused widespread disruption in Greater Manchester.

The Met Office say it's going to be a very windy day across much of the country.

They are predicting winds of up to 70mph on the coast.
