A section of road in Liverpool was sealed off after reports of smoke being seen coming out of the ground.
The cordon is in place in one part of Windsor Street and Merlin Street, Toxteth, with a Merseyside Fire and Rescue spokesperson confirming crews responded to reports of smoke coming from a grid at around 3.30pm.
Police officers put up a 25 metre cordon in place surrounding the man hole.

Some residents also claimed they have lost electricity in their homes since the smoke began to come out from the ground.
One fire engine is at the scene and a spokesperson says that crews are waiting for a Scottish Power engineer to arrive.
A Scottish Power spokesperson said: "Our engineers are currently working to repair an underground fault in the Windsor Street/Merlin Street area of Toxteth, which has disrupted power supplies to around 60 customers.
"We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused and assure our customers we’re doing everything we can to restore their power as quickly as possible."
