Road remains closed seven hours after man suffers life-threatening injuries in horror smash

A man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a serious collision in Wigan.

Mesnes Road in Swinley remains closed this evening after a number of vehicles were involved in a crash earlier today.

Emergency services were first called to the scene at the junction with Kenyon Road just before 1.50pm.

A man was taken to hospital by NWAS with serious injuries. His current condition is not yet known.

Images taken earlier today show a heavy police presence at the scene.

A large police cordon was in place and several ambulances and rapid response vehicles were in attendance.

A spokesman for GMP confirmed closures are still in place while police carry out investigations.

A spokesman for the force said: “Police were called to a collision on Mesnes Road just before 1.50pm.

“A number of vehicles were involved at the junction with Kenyon Road.

“One man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“Closures are still in place.”
