A busy city centre road remains closed and businesses have been forced to shut after a man was hit by a heavy goods vehicle this afternoon.
Merseyside Police confirmed that around 2pm, officers were called to Renshaw Street, between Brownlow Hill and Newington Street, to reports of a collision involving an HGV and a pedestrian.
An investigation is now underway following the serious collision and the driver of the HGV, a 31-year-old man, stopped at the scene and is assisting with enquiries.

At this stage, the nature of the incident or any injuries have not been confirmed and a number of businesses have been forced to shut as Renshaw Street remains closed between Great Charlotte Street and Hanover Street.
Merseyside Police said: " We can confirm an investigation is underway following a serious collision in Liverpool city centre this afternoon (Sunday 20 June).
"Just before 2.10pm, officers were called to Renshaw Street, between Brownlow Hill and Newington Street, to reports of a collision involving an HGV and a male pedestrian.
"Emergency services are in attendance and the driver of the HGV, a 31-year-old man, stopped at the scene and is assisting with enquiries.
"Renshaw Street remains closed between Great Charlotte Street and Hanover Street while investigations continue at the scene."
The force cordoned off the area around Renshaw Street by the old Lewis' building across from the Adelphi hotel and a number of police officers gathered around the set of traffic lights next to takeaway Chicken Bazooka by the HGV involved.
Restaurant CHY Liverpool confirmed they are closed for the evening now due to the incident.
They said they were expecting almost a full house and started operating early to accommodate Father's Day trade.
One member of staff told the ECHO: "The road has been closed since just after 2pm and we weren't able to have any customers come into the restaurant.
"It's very sad for those people involved and there's nothing more we can do, we just have to wait for the police to deal with it."

Puregym Liverpool Central has also confirmed they have had to close due to the incident on Renshaw Street. and plans to reopen as soon as they are able to.
Liverpool Biennial said due to the serious incident, the Lewis's Building closed to visitors.
A number of Arriva buses have also been affected and diverted.
In a statement, Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service said: " MFRS were called to a serious RTC involving an HGV and a person in Renshaw Street at 2.21pm today and were on scene at 2.24pm.
"Four engines and the search and rescue team attended initially.
"Crews are on standby while an investigation takes place at the scene, where Merseyside Police are also present.
"Renshaw Street is closed at the junction with Hanover Street and people are advised to avoid the area."
