Road remains closed 21 hours after lorry and two cars crash

A busy Liverpool road remains closed more than 21 hours after a crash between two cars and a lorry.

Emergency services rushed to the Queens Drive flyover at around 11.55pm on Sunday, November 28 following reports of a crash.

Once at the scene officers found a Scania lorry, a grey Citroen Berlingo car and a black Ford Fiesta had skidded due to the weather conditions.

The driver of the Citroen received treatment from paramedics at the scene for a suspected broken nose.

Nobody was seriously injured in the crash.

The vehicles were recovered and police left the scene at around 3.45am today.

The flyover remains closed but a tweet by Liverpool Council posted at 9pm on Monday said the road would reopen shortly.

The local authority said the closure was due to debris from the earlier accident.

A spokesperson said: "Queens Drive flyover, at The Rocket junction will reopen within the hour.

"We apologise for the delay in removing the debris which was caused by an earlier traffic accident.

"The area has now been cleared.

"Sorry again for the inconvenience this has caused."

Traffic was at a standstill for most of the day following the closure with 'chaos' being reported across the region including in Stoneycroft, Old Swan and Childwall.

People stuck in traffic near to the flyover on Queens Drive this morning described it as being "like a car park."

One person tweeted: "Chaos around the flyover Queens Drive it’s shut knock on effect around the area."

Another said: "Flyover by the Rocket pub on Queens Drive is closed, just sat in traffic for 20 mins it’s gridlocked."

A third said: "Avoid Queens Drive. It’s a car park."
