The Appeal Court has upheld the lower court's ruling sentencing a 52-year-old engineer to 10 years in jail for shooting to death a teenager in a road rage incident two years ago in Chon Buri.
The Appeal Court confirmed the jail sentence against Suthep Phochanasomboon and found he was responsible for the death of Navadol Puengpai, 17. The shooting took place in Muang district of Chon Buri in the evening of Feb 8, 2017.
In the ruling released yesterday, the court said a parked van belonging to Navadol's friends had blocked Suthep's car. Also in the car was Suthep's wife and their family. Suthep demanded Navadol's group move the van, triggering arguments from both sides. Navadol was also present at the scene. Suthep then honked the car horn and flashed his headlights to hurry the group to move the van. At the same time, he began swearing.
The court said Suthep chased after the van once it started moving and continued to honk repeatedly. The two groups stopped at an intersection, where Navadol and his friends walked up to Suthep's car. Suthep then shot Navadol dead.
Suthep said he accepted the Appeal Court's decision and applied for 874,000-baht bail.
