Road rage driver punches and spits at binman trying to do his job

CCTV images were released of a thug who punched a binman in the face and spat at him as he carried out his rounds as a frontline key worker.

The attack happened after the Warrington council employee had asked a motorist if he could move his car because it was blocking the road.

Outraged, the lout approached the binman and seriously assaulted him.

The 54-year-old worker was spat at and punched to the face, and needed treatment at Warrington Hospital for a head wound.

Enquiries have been ongoing since the assault, which took place at around 10.50am on Thursday 9 April on Grammar School Road in the Latchford area of the town.

Officers are keen to speak to the man in the CCTV image who may be able to assist with their investigation.

PC Alex Carr, of Warrington Local Policing Unit, said: "This was an unprovoked attack on a man who was simply carrying out his job during these challenging times.

"I am keen to speak to the man in the image and I am encouraging him to come forward as he may have information to assist with our investigation."
