Road near Bristol Parkway could soon have a 20mph speed limit

Plans are being made to introduce a 20mph speed limit on a busy through road near Bristol Parkway station after concerns were raised over road safety for school children.

South Gloucestershire Council has launched a consultation on the proposed speed limit along the entire length of North Road in Stoke Gifford as well as all connecting cul-de-sacs.

The current speed limit for the road is 30mph.

After funding was recently secured for a number of schemes supporting walking and cycling to school, concerns were raised by local residents about the speeds on the road, particularly around its two zebra crossings.

Original plans for speed bumps were shelved following consultations in June and July of this year, with the 20mph limit option said to be preferred by residents as an equally effective form of traffic calming without the added disruption of physical measures.

This follows a similar consultation in June that saw 28 other roads in the nearby Little Stoke area, home to half-a-dozen schools, all being considered for a 20mph limit as well.

Anyone wanting to have their say on the North Road proposal has until October 14. Find out more on the council's website.
