Road linking Wigan town centre to the M6 motorway has been completed by North Wales firm

A North Wales civil engineering firm has completed a major highways scheme that will provide better connectivity between Wigan town centre and the M6 motorway.

Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK completed the A49 link road on behalf of Wigan Council.

The project, which was unveiled by Wigan Council leader David Molyneux, will help join the area with the M6 and ease congestion whilst improving air quality along current routes.

Jones Bros, based in Ruthin, constructed a new highway and four bridges, which will provide better east-west connectivity for residents and commuters as well as help boost economic growth.

The community has also benefitted after the family firm invested £2m into the local economy during construction by working with borough-based suppliers and companies for materials, security support and drilling works on-site.

Jones Bros managing director John Dielhof said: “We are pleased our first major project for Wigan Council has been such a success.

“As well as delivering infrastructure that will benefit local people and visitors to the area, we are confident our work in the community will provide a lasting legacy."

Coun Molyneux said: “The completion of the road is a boost for the borough and will provide quicker journey times for those commuting in and out of the town centre.

“I’m delighted to declare the road officially open and look forward to those who live, work and visit Wigan Borough benefitting from this new infrastructure."
