A road in Ardwick has been closed while repairs are carried out on a leaking gas pipe.
Devonshire Street South is shut to all traffic due to a 'sudden increase' in gas levels in the area.
Cadent is carrying out urgent repairs on one of the gas mains.
A diversion is in place around Devonshire Street South.
Motorists can still use Stockport Road and all nearby roads, but have been told to expect congestion.

The road is likely to be closed for several days while gas network engineers dig down to the pipe.
A spokesman for Cadent said: "It’s not ideal to close a road, and it’s always something we try to avoid, but it’s necessary for us to move in quick and keep everyone safe.
"We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience while we get the work done."
