Traffic diversions and a road closure will come into force later this month as works continue on a new dual carriageway for Sunderland.
Last year, construction work started on phase three of the Sunderland Strategic Transport Corridor (SSTC 3).
When completed, the £70.8 million council project will create a route through Pallion, running underneath the Queen Alexandra Bridge, into Deptford and onto the city centre.
Earlier this week, council chiefs said falling traffic levels during the coronavirus lockdown had boosted progress on the infrastructure project.
Contractors Esh Civils have now sent a letter to residents about upcoming works at Hylton Road.
From Tuesday, July 28 new drainage works, kerbing, footpaths and surfacing will take place over an eight-week period.
As a result, the bottom of Hylton Road will be closed with no access onto, or from, Hylton Road roundabout.
Site working will take place between Monday and Friday with the potential for some Saturday working.
Diversions and traffic management will also be in place throughout.
The update letter from construction liaison officer for Esh Civils, Jen Anderson, adds SSTC 3 remains on track to be completed next year.
It reads: “Whilst the country has been on lockdown due to Covid-19, this has allowed us to progress works originally planned later in the year, which is great news as the project remains on plan for completion in Autumn 2021.”
The letter goes on to say: “We realise that a certain amount of disruption could be caused during the work and assure you that we will use our best endeavours to ensure that the impact to you is kept to a minimum.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued cooperation during our ongoing works.
“We remind you building sites can be dangerous places and ask if you have children in your household that you ensure they are not allowed to play in areas of work.”
SSTC 3 aims to improve connectivity, the distribution of traffic across river crossings, journey times and road safety.
Further improvements on Wessington Way, between the A19 and north end of the Northern Spire and improvements to routes into the Port of Sunderland, are also planned across phases four and five of the SSTC project.
However, council bosses have said these phases are subject to future “funding opportunities”.
