Road closure for water repair in town centre

Emergency repairs have been carried out to a water main in Coatbridge after a burst which affected supplies to nearby properties.

Scottish Water staff have now completed the repair to the pipe, on Main Street in the town centre; while final reinstatement roadworks in the area are currently being completed.

The B804 Dunbeth Road in the town centre has been shut since the water incident on Wednesday evening.

It is currently closed to traffic between Main Street and the roundabout linking to nearby Coatbank Street and South Circular Road, with local diversions being in place for motorists.

A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: “A burst occurred on a seven-inch main late on Wednesday evening in Main Street, Coatbridge – this caused an interruption to normal supplies for some customers in the area.

“Tankers were brought in to help maintain water supplies and minimise disruption.

“Due to the location of the burst, and in order for the repair to be carried out safely, a stretch of Main Street was closed from its junction with Dunbeth Road to the roundabout just off Main Street.

“While the repair has been successfully completed, traffic management remains in place and will be removed as soon as road reinstatement works have been carried out.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused as a result of these emergency works and thank customers and road users for their patience and understanding.”
