Road closure after burst pipe in Dundonald causes flooding leaving homes without water

Members of the public have been asked to avoid the East Link Road after a burst pipe leaves route "totally impassable" on Thursday morning.

The flooding is currently restricting access to the Comber Greenway and although NI water engineers are currently at the scene, it is estimated that it will take some time to clear.

The road closure off the Old Dundonald Road is has resulted in drivers having to search for alternative routes and many homes in the Dundonald area have been left without water due to the incident.

East Belfast MP Gavin Robinson shared images of the affected area in order to show the extent of the flooding to road users.

Mr Robinson penned: "East Link Road is totally impassible.

"Please avoid this area and use alternative routes.

"NI Water engineers are on-site, but this will take some time to rectify."

He also added that water is expected to be restored to the area at around 6pm this evening (June 24) and that engineers have been able to restore running water to over 1000 houses since this morning.

The DUP MP continued: "Over 2000 properties were initially affected at 7am this morning, that number has been reduced to now to approx 930 properties."
