Road closed in Oldham after crash involving car and cyclist

A road has been shut after emergency services were called to the scene of a "serious" crash in Oldham.

Huddersfield Road has been closed in both directions between Stamford Road and Culvert Street earlier this afternoon, Wednesday March 24.

Police and paramedics are currently on the scene, with a police cordon closing off a large portion of the area to both drivers and pedestrians.

Witnesses reportedly saw a black Range Rover and a cyclist collide at the junction of Stamford Road and Huddersfield Road earlier this afternoon.

A helicopter, believed to be the air ambulance, landed at the nearby Waterhead Academy.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers were called around 1.25pm this afternoon, Wednesday March 24, by the ambulance service to a report of a collision on Stamford Road, Lees.

"Emergency services are currently in attendance and initial enquiries have established a car and a bicycle have been in collision.

"Road closures are currently in place."

All traffic has been diverted away from the area, and drivers have been asked to use Lees Road.

Bus services have been affected, with the 350 between Ashton and Oldham diverting via Lees Road and Platting Road, missing out the Waterhead area, and the 184 between Oldham and Huddersfield rerouted via Greenacres and Constantine Street, missing out the Stamford and St Johns Street stops.
