A busy Trafford road has been shut in both directions tonight following a 'serious crash' involving one car.
Emergency services descended on Carrington Spur, in Sale, after reports of a collision before 8pm this evening (December 8).
Police have since closed the road in both directions between Banky Lane and the M60 at junction seven.
Two fire engines were sent out to the scene, along with a specialist rescue team from Tameside.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Just before 8pm on Wednesday, December 8, fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Carrington Spur in Sale.
“Two fire engines from Wythenshawe and Stretford fire stations, as well as the technical rescue unit from Ashton, quickly attended the scene. The incident involved one car.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish a fire.
“GMFRS crews remain at the scene.”
In a post on Twitter, a Transport for Greater Manchester spokesperson wrote: "Carrington Spur, Sale.
"Road is closed in both directions between Banky Lane and M60 junction seven due to a serious RTC.
"Seek alternative route."
Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service have been approached for comment.
