Road closed in Ayr town centre crash ahead of Grand National

A town centre accident has left traffic delays as punters are expected to flock to the town to kick off the Scottish Grand National.

A motorist is said to have smashed into the traffic light at the bottom of Mill Street in Ayr, leaving the light crooked and out of order.

The road remains closed for motorists turning left on to Station Road, but is open to those heading for Ayr Central.

Cones and tape mark off the accident spot as workmen attempt to reopen the road as soon as possible.

Delays are expected so please allow extra travel time.

Police Scotland have been contacted.
