Road closed for several hours after two people seriously injured in Rochdale crash

A country road near Rochdale has been closed for several hours after two people were seriously injured in a crash.

The smash happened on Edenfield Road in Cheesden at around 6.30am on Thursday.

A woman in her 30s was one of the patients rushed to the major trauma unit at Salford Royal Hospital, a spokeswoman for North West Ambulance Service said.

It is unclear at this stage whether the two patients suffered life-threatening injuries.

The road was still closed by 11am.

The spokeswoman said: "We got a call at 6.25am to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles.

"We sent two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle to the scene.

"Two patients were taken to hospital with serious injuries to the major trauma unit at Salford Royal Hospital.

"One was a female in her 30s."

TfGM tweeted about the crash, saying the road was closed between Norden and Edenfield.

Motorists were urged to use a different route.
