Road closed as van bursts into flames

A road is closed after a van burst into flames.

Emergency services have closed Broad Oak Road in St Helens due to a van fire between Boardmans Lane and Fry Street. A video sent to the ECHO shows what appears to be a G4S van on fire, parked at the side of the road.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We are currently on Derbyshire Hill Road, in St Helens, to assist Merseyside Fire and Rescue following reports that a van was on fire.

"It’s believed that the fire was caused by an electrical fault with the vehicle. We remain at the scene while the incident is being dealt with."

Bus services have been diverted due to the fire.

Arriva North West tweeted: "Due to a van Fire at Boardmans Lane Service 329 34 and 34A will use Fleet Lane and Ashtons Green Drive in both directions".
