A man in his 70s has been taken to hospital with a "serious head injury" after being hit by a car.
An air ambulance was among five ambulance vehicles sent to the scene after the accident which has closed a road in St Helens .
North West Ambulance Service told the ECHO that they were called at 12.11pm and sent an air ambulance, rapid response vehicle, advanced paramedic and two land ambualnces after "the collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian" on Dentons Green Lane.
Dentons Green Lane remains closed to the junction of Bishop Road.
A North West Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "A man in his early 70s has been taken to hospital with a serious head injury."
Merseyside Police said they were called to "reports of a collision between a Renault Clio and a pedestrian" at 12.15pm and urged motorists to find alternative routes.
A spokesman said: "The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, will be taken to hospital for assessment of his injuries. The Renault Clio driver is helping with enquiries. A road closure is in place on Dentons Green Lane to the junction of Bishop Road."

St Helens Council also urged motorists to find alternative routes but stressed businesses remained open.
The local authority tweeted: "Motorists are urged to find alternative routes as Dentons Green Lane will be closed both ways by Fort Knox storage centre due to a serious road traffic collision. Businesses remain open in the area."
