Man fighting for his life after being hit by van

A road has been closed both ways after a pedestrian was struck by a van in a sickening accident this morning.

Police initially said the man was left with "life-changing injuries" after he was in collision with the vehicle on the A41 Old Chester Road in Great Sutton but have since said the pedestrian's injuries are "life-threatening"

Officers say they were called to the scene of the crash at 7.40am.

They say the accident happened at the corner of Whetstone Hey.

The A41 Old Chester Road remains closed in both directions while accident investigations continue.

Travel monitors INRIX said: "A41 Chester Road in both directions closed, slow traffic due to accident between B5132 Sutton Way and Old Chester Road."

The van driver was not injured.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At 7.40am today (Wednesday 1 July) police were called to reports of a collision on the A41 Old Chester Road in Great Sutton.

"Officers attended and found there had been a collision between a pedestrian and a van at the corner of Whetstone Hey.

"The pedestrian is believed to have sustained serious injuries and has been taken to hospital.

"The driver of the van was uninjured. The road is currently closed while police deal with the incident."
