Man rushed to hospital with head injuries after town centre attack

A man has been rushed to hospital with head injuries following an early-morning altercation in Southport town centre.

Merseyside Police were called to Nevill Street in the early hours of today (Wednesday, July 6) following reports of an altercaton. One man, in his 30s, was reportedly knocked to the floor and sustained a head injury in the process. He was then taken to hospital for assessment and is currently in a stable condition.

Following the altercation, a 23-year-old man was found near to the scene of the incident and was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault. He is currently in custody for questioning.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson told the ECHO : "We have arrested a man on suspicion of assault following an incident in Southport in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 6 July. At around 2.25am, officers were informed of an altercation between two men on Nevill Street.

"One of the men, in his 30s, was reportedly knocked to the floor, sustaining a head injury. He was taken to hospital for assessment and is currently stable. A 23-year-old man was located near to the scene and arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault. He remains in custody for questioning.
