Road closed as firefighters rush to blaze at block of flats

A road is closed after the fire service scrambled to a flat block fire in Liverpool City Centre.

Firefighters from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service rushed to Vine Street, just off Myrtle Street in the Knowledge Quarter at around 3.14pm on Tuesday, June 28, following reports of a blaze. Once five fire engines and an aerial appliance arrived at the scene just five minutes later, they found a balcony on the fifth floor well alight.

Firefighters gained entry to the seven-storey building and started putting out the blaze. They have also gained access to the adjoining flats to check for fire spread.

Pictures taken by The ECHO show firefighters working on the balcony of one of the flats . A yellow fire hose reel was extended from an engine on the ground, up to the balcony on the first floor.

Vine Street is closed while the emergency services deal with the incident. The North West Ambulance Service are not in attendance and nobody is believed to be injured in the blaze.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service have said the incident is ongoing and are asking people to avoid the area.
