A section of a main road in Cheadle was closed after a car was flipped onto its roof during a crash.
The A560, Stockport Road, was last night shut off in both directions at the junction with New Hey Road after a collision overturned the vehicle, spilling fuel over the carriageway.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, with fire crews spotted working on the car as it started to smoulder.
Smoke could be seen rising from the underneath of the vehicle, with flames taking hold of the front end of the vehicle.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within 20 minutes.
A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just after 6pm on Monday 2 August, firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving one car on Stockport Road, Cheadle.

“Two fire engines from Stockport and Cheadle fire stations, as well as the technical rescue unit from Leigh, arrived quickly at the scene.
"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel to extinguish a fire and helped make the area safe.
“GMFRS crews were in attendance for about 20 minutes.”
Witnesses reported seeing armed police at the scene, with paramedics being held away from the scene whilst the other emergency services made the area safe.
