Road closed and two in hospital following two car smash in East Kilbride

Two people have been hospitalised following a car crash in East Kilbride this afternoon.

Emergency services rushed to the A726 Queensway carriageway in the town around 12.30pm following a two car smash.

The incident caused the road to be closed for over an hour whilst emergency services were on the scene.

Two people were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries. Their condition is currently unknown.

An eye-witness posted online: “There has been a serious road traffic accident on Queensway at Schweppes heading towards the town centre.

“It looks like quite a bad accident, the road maybe shut for a considerable amount of time.”

Traffic Scotland warned of the road closure (Traffic Scotland)

A diversion was put in place whilst emergency services dealt with the incident.

Traffic Scotland warned road users that the A726 carriageway was closed eastbound and delays were to be expected.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.30pm on Wednesday, September 22, police received a report of a road crash involving two vehicles on the Queensway in East Kilbride.

“Emergency services attended and two people were taken to hospital.

“The road is now reopened.”
