Road closed after woman hit by a car

A woman was knocked down by a car whilst out walking in St Helens.

The incident happened yesterday in Haydock when a Toyota car collided with the pedestrian, who has been described as in her 60s.

In a statement today, Merseyside Police said they were called to Clipsley Lane at 6.30pm yesterday following the reports.

The force said there is no suggestion the pedestrian was seriously injured and that the driver of the Toyota did stop at the scene.

On social media, residents also claimed that roads were closed off yesterday evening following the incident.

In a statement, Merseyside Police said: "We were called to Clipsley Lane at 6.30pm yesterday following reports of a road traffic collision involving a Toyota car and a female pedestrian in her 60s.

"There is no suggestion the pedestrian was seriously injured and the driver stopped at the scene."
