Road closed after 'serious' crash near Glossop

A main road in the High Peak is to remain closed for several hours after a 'serious' crash this evening.

The smash, said to involve a car and a van, happened on Glossop Road in Charlesworth near Glossop at around 4pm.

Locals said on social media the air ambulance had been seen landing nearby.

The road has been taped off since with a large number of police present as they deal with the aftermath and carry out enquiries.

Derbyshire Police have warned it is likely to remain closed 'for some time' and have urged drivers to avoid the area.

They said on Twitter: "Glossop Road at Charlesworth near Glossop is currently closed due to a collision.

"It happened just before 4pm today (Saturday 15 May) and emergency crews are currently at the scene.

"The road may be closed for some time, please avoid the area and find an alternative route."

The Derbyshire Dales Response Unit said: "We are currently in attendance with at a serious collision in Charlesworth.

"Please find alternatives routes."

No further details have yet been disclosed.

The Manchester Evening News has contacted the force for more information.

A Peugeout car and a small Ford van which were both badly damaged were visible inside the cordon this evening.
