Road closed after pedestrian hit by car in Tameside

A pedestrian has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Tameside.

Wellington Road is shut between Oldham Road and Lord Sheldon Way in Ashton-under-Lyne while police investigate.

The pedestrian was struck at around 7.50pm this evening.

The driver stopped at the scene and the pedestrian was taken to hospital.

Police have not said how serious their injuries are.

Transport for Greater Manchester are urging motorists to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At 19:49 police were called to a report of a car in collision with a pedestrian at the location.

"The driver stopped at the scene and the pedestrian has been taken to hospital.

"The road remains closed while investigations continue."

Anybody with information or dashcam footage is encouraged to contact the police quoting log 2426.
