Road closed after HGV 'swerved' out the way of car

A busy main road was forced to shut earlier today after a HGV was involved in a crash.

A HGV and a car crashed on Church Road in Bootle this morning, with the HGV appearing to hit a lamppost as well.

The crash, that happened outside The Netherton pub, isn't believed to have caused any serious injuries.

It is also believed that the HGV swerved to avoid a car in front of it, causing the crash.

A young child is believed to have been in the car that the HGV avoided, luckily no one was seriously injured.

An eyewitness said: "The HGV lorry driver swerved to avoid a car that pulled in front of it. The car had a young child in but thankfully they're all safe.

"The HGV driver avoided what could of been a far more serious accident! The car has been taken away already."

Merseyside Police have been approached for comment.
